Masonry waterproofing
Record rainfall in Chicago-land area caused many problems related to water penetration through masonry walls. Estimate requests for masonry waterproofing increased in May and continue in July. Although we have entire page committed to waterproofing, here we’d like to share few tips that will allow you to determine whether leak is related to masonry or not.
- Water dripping in the center of the window is usually an indicator for masonry leak higher above the window. However, in case of balcony windows/doors located below similar windows, the leak might be related to faulty door above.
- Moisture detected near baseboards is usually a result of longer water penetration. It is also more difficult to spot and may be also associated with warped hardwood floors.
- Water leak near the walls showing on ceiling or coming from nearby light fixtures. This type of leak occurs usually on top floors of the building and may be mistaken for a roof related leak.
Nevertheless, even if no leaks are noticed, look at your building for cracks, voids or wet spots after the rain. Water brings life but moisture inside the building can be very unhealthy.
If you think your building should be inspected, don’t hesitate, we are here to help you.
